Our New Normal (or What to Expect from Chess Camps)
Campers will be assigned to stable groups of 15 or fewer including staff. This means children will not be able to change groups or split their day between chess and specialty camps.
Morning half-day camps run from 8:45 a.m. – 12:00 a.m. All morning campers will then need to be picked-up, they cannot join other camps. MB is not offering afternoon-only sessions.
Every group will have two sets of chess equipment (chess boards, pieces, clocks, teaching boards). One set will be used in the morning and the other set will be used in the afternoon.
Because we are required by RI DOH guidelines to keep campers in stable groups with specific staffing guidelines, MB is not able to offer busing, morning early arrival or afternoon extended day.
We are not able to offer lunch.
Masks and other Safety Measures
- We will follow the state guidelines with regards to masks. Campers will not be required to wear face coverings during most of the camp day. We will ask campers over the age of two to have a covering available for use as needed in common areas such as drop-off and pick-up times.
- Here is an excerpt from reopening RI: “Cloth face coverings may be used if tolerated by children older than age two. However, wearing cloth face coverings for long periods of time is uncomfortable and could hamper speech and social development. As face coverings are not recommended when children are at home with family members, it is reasonable to not require them, even of older children, in childcare when interactions are limited to only children and adults in the stable group.
- Face coverings could be considered for children older than age two, as tolerated, in common areas of the center and at drop-off and pick-up times when there may be some unavoidable close interaction between the stable group.
- A daily health screening/form will be required of all campers and staff. Form will be provided.
